Hellen Achieng’s journey has been marked by her resilience in overcoming obstacles.
Initially she survived on menial jobs to fend for herself. The obstacle that loomed largest was her lack of education and income skills, which made it incredibly difficult for her to secure stable employment.
However, Achieng’s story took a positive turn when she made the life-changing decision to enroll in Manna Fashion and Design Tailoring School. This bold step allowed her to acquire valuable sewing skills, enabling her to create a wide range of intricate designs.
Reflecting on her transformation, Hellen stated, “I joined the fashion school with zero tailoring skills, but now am able to sew various designs and attires including dresses, shirts and shorts.” Hellen stated.
During her graduation alongside her fellow trainees, she was gifted a new sewing machine, a tradition upheld by Manna Ministries International to empower their graduates.
Buoyed by newfound confidence, expertise, and the essential sewing machine for launching her own business, Achieng wasted no time. Within just two months, she established her enterprise. Although she started with only two clients, her determination to succeed in the industry propelled her forward.
Soon after that, Achieng started travelling to neighboring East African country, Uganda to procure quality fabrics for her customers.
Despite the typical challenges faced by new businesses, she persevered and secured a loyal client base.
Presently, Hellen has not only purchased an additional sewing machine but also an overlock machine from her earnings. Her business continues to expand, and she aspires to hire and train new apprentices in her shop, passing on her tailoring skills.
Hellen attributes her remarkable journey to the support she received from Manna. She expressed, “My progress and success are undoubtedly due to Manna. That’s where I acquired my skills and received a sewing machine. Today, I have two additional sewing machines from my thriving business. There has been significant progress in my life, and I am far ahead of where I used to be. Manna has empowered me and restored my dignity.”
